A Room Beneath the Stars
A Room Beneath the Stars is a container for monthly facilitated conversations rooted in astrology and engaged with coming into right-relationship with change.
We are living in times of immense ecological, social, political, and personal change, and astrology has been a practice of navigating change for thousands of years. The intention of this space is to support the development of community for students and practitioners of astrology who are also committed to the work of personal healing, collective liberation, and co-creating more livable conditions on this planet. These are practices of “shaping change”—a concept developed by adrienne maree brown in conversation with Octavia Butler’s writing about “shaping God.” brown—who I first heard articulate the idea of coming into right-relationship with change—writes, “There is a conversation in the room that only these people at this moment can have. Find it.” This is a principle of emergent strategy, which brown describes as “ways for humans to practice complexity and grow the future through relatively simple interactions.” This idea of finding the conversation in the room that only these people at this moment can have as part of practicing complexity and growing the future will be the guiding principle for A Room Beneath the Stars. Our conversations may include reflections on current astrological transits, discussions about different parts of the astrological system, philosophical questions about astrology and its role in the world, personal experiences with different planets, and more. These conversations will not consist of teaching astrology or doing chart readings for participants—which I currently offer in the form of one-on-one tutoring and astrology consultations. Rather, A Room Beneath the Stars is a place to come together to share and develop our thinking about astrology and its role in shaping our world. It is a place to bring our questions about how and why we practice astrology, and to discover together what we could not recognize alone. These conversations will be built through finding partial alignments between our shared values. While we will not share all the same views or values, this space invites those who align with anti-racist, feminist movements, who affirm the inherent value of those who are marginalized, and who are committed to understanding human life as part of much larger more-than-human relations—including our relationship with the sky. A Room Beneath the Stars will meet on Zoom once a month, on the third Wednesday of each month, from 7-9pm eastern. In order to create a consistent container for these conversations, I am asking participants to commit to three months in a row. The cost for participation is $30 per month—paid as $90 for three months. The dates for the meetings the next quarter are: -April 17 -May 15 -June 19 A recurring Zoom link will be sent to participants following registration and again the day of each meeting. |
